Elgin Folding Travel Alarm Clock, Black Review

Elgin Folding Travel Alarm Clock, Black
Average Reviews:

This clock fulfills all of your travel needs. I spent a half hour slogging thru the dozens of Amazon travel clocks to find this one. I can't believe no one else has reviewed it. I refuse to trust wake up services. When I have to leave for the airport at 4am, I want my own reliable alarm clock to wake me up.
My old digi-clock of twenty years just pooped out. I liked it cuz it was digital (no ticking sound), small (size of pack of cigarettes, EZ time set and inexpensive at $10+. The EZ time set is the most important feature for me. I hate those clocks that one has to run thru 23 hours to change the time back by one hour. This clock allows one to +/- just one hour (or minute). It is essential when cruising in the Carribee or Mex Riviera where the time zone changes almost nightly.
We don't wear wrist watches any more and it is nice to whack the clock in the middle of the night to see the time. Is it almost time to get up at 6am or can one roll over at midnight?

From Elgin, this folding travel alarm clock snaps closed in its sleek black housing, enabling compact packing and preserving the time settings while in transit. With a 1-inch LCD display, the clock conveys the time of day, the alarm's time setting, the month and date, and the day of the week. The clock also provides AM/PM indicators. To illuminate the digital display in the dark, a blue backlight is activated by pressing the big button on the clock's front. This button doubles as the snooze button, silencing the alarm for a little extra shuteye. To set the alarm and time, a plus/minus function allows the user to adjust to the desired hour and minute quickly instead of requiring scrolling through all the hours and minutes of the day. Powered by two included button cell SR44 batteries, the travel alarm clock also benefits from a five-year limited warranty. The clock measures 4 by 2-1/5 by 2-1/2 inches and weighs 1 pound upon shipping.

Global Atomic Travel Clock (World Radio Controlled) with EL Backlight, Alarm, Snooze Review

Global Atomic Travel Clock (World Radio Controlled) with EL Backlight, Alarm, Snooze

Don't lose the instruction book. You may need a magnifying glass to read the extremely small print, but you will need it to set up and use this clock. Once you do, it works fine, although it did take overnight to set the correct time zone. The clock is easy to read, but a couple of indicators, namely the am/pm indicator and the alarm symbol are also very small. I haven't taken any trips, so I don't know how it works while traveling.

Seiko Advanced Technology Travel Alarm Clock Silver-Tone Metallic Case Review

Seiko Advanced Technology Travel Alarm Clock Silver-Tone Metallic Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This clock works very well as an alarm clock, but do not buy it if you think that whenever you travel to a new time zone, it will automatically adjust. The auto adjustment "wave" basically only works about 50% of the time. In other words, you arrive in Singapore, push the button, and guess what? It keeps it at the old time zone. So you put it near the window, push the button again, same. Etc. That would be bad enough, but every once in a while, it adjusts when you do not want it to! It has happened to me several times where I set the alarm, and in the middle of the night, it set the time back by one hour (it does beep when that happens but if you sleep through the beep or are in another room, you don't realize it) so I woke up one hour later! To work around this, I turn off the "radio control" when I know I am going to be in a time zone for a while and it has adjusted correctly. So, to sum up, you are NOT going to buy a reliable time-zone-switching clock when you get this. The other features mentioned (flashlight, snooze, etc.) are good but I would hold out for something more reliable. I am sure there are scientific explanations (building blocking the signal etc.) but I don't care about that, I just want it to work, as am I sure most business travelers would.

Casio #TQ140-1BDF Travel Alarm Clock Review

Casio #TQ140-1BDF Travel Alarm Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My previous alarm clock was an electronic one with an atomic clock and all sorts of bells and whistles. Unfortunately, it took many steps to set or turn off the alarm, each accompanied by an annoying beep. This Casio is ideal for me. It's simple, reliable, and easy to set. Just put the alarm hand where you need it, raise the button, and it's set. If I wake up before the alarm goes off, as I usually do, all I have to do is push the button back down to turn it off, with no noise to wake my still-sleeping wife. The large numbers are easy to read, and the glow-in-the-dark paint retains its glow throughout the night. It's small enough to take traveling, and it doesn't need to be plugged in, so you can set it anywhere. As far as I'm concerned, it's the ideal alarm clock.

Can't beat the quality for the price!! I've been looking for a Seth Thomas travel alarm but haven't been able to find one. I accidently came across this alarm in Amazon. Glad I did! Most inexpensive ones have an alarm that you can hardly hear. No problem waking up with this alarm!!

Casio Auto Calendar Digital Travel Alarm Clock Review

Casio Auto Calendar Digital Travel Alarm Clock
Average Reviews:

This clock works well as a battery operated alarm clock. However, Casio really could have thought through the "travel" part better. Although it's light enough, it's too large for a travel clock. And there's no cover for the controls, so my first set of batteries died when something in my bag pressed against the snooze/light button for the whole flight. If you're looking for a battery operated alarm for your nightstand, this is a decent clock. If you really want a travel alarm, look elsewhere (or at least pack the batteries separately).

Elgin Travel Alarm Clock Review

Elgin Travel Alarm Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used an Indiglo travel alarm as my main alarm for over ten years. Eventually, it stopped working. I have been on a quest to replace it ever since--about six years now. The main thing I've learned by trying so many other alarms is--it's hard to find a good, basic, no-frills, reliable alarm clock.
Some alarms lose time. Some snooze for 10 or 15 minutes, which defeats the awakening process. Some are loud and/or obnoxious while others are barely audible. One couldn't keep time, AND after it fell off my nightstand--for the first time--the numbers became unreadable. A LOT are not Indiglo, and the backlights are so bright they could double as airstrip lighting; I've had to make them covers to dull the light so I could go to sleep.
I finally gave up finding a suitable replacement at local stores, and started alarm clock shopping online. After comparing features, reading reviews, and checking carefully for 1) battery powered operation 2) no constant backlight and 3) regular old-fashioned only lights up when you push the button (Indiglo), I chose this Elgin travel alarm.
I've used it as my only alarm for several weeks now. It works better than the (many) others I've tried.
Pros
1) no cords (especially good, since it is sold as a travel alarm)
2) audible, obviously an alarm, but the sound isn't TOO grating
3) lightweight
4) the stand covers the button, so if you were traveling instead of using it as a regular alarm (like me) it wouldn't end up draining the batteries by being pressed down the whole time
5) it appears to keep time appropriately (so far, anyway)
6) the numbers are large enough to read without my glasses
7) red locator light is handy
8) low price
Cons
1) it only has a 4 minute "snooze" between alarms
2) required batteries (2 AAA) do not come with it
3) the stand seems flimsy and sticks out pretty far in the back
4) the buttons don't slide smoothly, but they aren't too bad
5) the Indiglo is slightly too bright--it does take a second or two to be able to see the numbers after hitting the snooze button
6) did I mention the 4 minute snooze?
I've dropped it off my nightstand a couple of times. I'm not a morning person, and the four minutes pass quickly--I tend to reach out without looking the first couple of times, and have misjudged its location and pushed it off the stand. So far, it remains intact (the stand hasn't even broken off or cracked yet).
Overall, it's the best replacement I've found during my years of searching. The four minute snooze is REALLY annoying though; the old Indiglo had a 8 (or 7, I don't remember for sure at this point, so many alarms later) minute snooze interval and that was just about perfect. While not a "perfect replacement," it is obvious they don't make what I'm looking for anymore. I will give up the search and use this Elgin. It is adequate, and certainly does its job. It's hard to sleep when the alarm goes off every time you get comfortable from snoozing it the last time. The alarm tone is loud enough to wake you, but not loud enough to make you cling to the ceiling with surprise. The red light helps locate it when it's ringing (although I have to wait a second for the blue light to go down after pushing snooze before I can look at the time).
If it had twice the snooze length (8 minutes), I would give it five stars, since the other flaws are so minor. I might even settle for a six minute snooze. Since it's only four minutes, though, that and all the minor flaws add up to only four stars.

Why risk missing a flight or the departure of a tour by depending on a hotel alarm clock or a wake-up call from the front desk? Take control of time while on the road with this lightweight travel alarm clock. From Elgin, the compact clock benefits from a protective black cover which folds back to serve as the clock's stand for tabletop display. The clock conveys the time on a 7/10-inch LCD screen, equipped with both alarm and AM/PM indicators. For time illumination in the dark, a blue backlight is activated by pressing the big button on the clock's front. This button doubles as the snooze button, silencing the alarm for a little extra shuteye. Below the screen, a switch allows the users to choose the appropriate clock display, selecting between time set, alarm set, alarm on, and alarm off. The user employs the provided hour and minute buttons to toggle to the desired times. To power the clock, the separate purchase of one AAA battery is required. A one-year limited warranty covers this item. Standing upright, the travel alarm clock measures 4 inches wide by 5 inches deep by 5 inches high and weighs 6.1 ounces.

I bought this item because it has a "smart lite" that stays on all night - problem is that you must have the alarm ON to use this feature.
Other compalaint:the function switch for setting time and alarm is too small, stiff, and difficult to get into the correct postiton.

Timex T315SX Travel Alarm Clock Radio (Silver) Review

Timex T315SX Travel Alarm Clock Radio (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great product. Indestructable clamshell close, lightweight, and small for travel, a new battery lasts for a year or two, loud alarm, big numbers and nighttime visibility, snooze seems to keep working no matter how many times you hit it, am and fm work fine. I've bought 6 of these in the past, given most of them away to guests who used them and really liked them, and logged on again today to buy a few more. I've bought dozens of different small travel alarm clocks over the past 30 years (which I also use for my main home alarm clock--I don't like switching when I travel), and this is by far the best ever. I'm buying more so that I don't ever run out--I worry they'll quit making it someday. Never have known any of them to miss an alarm, in spite of that other review to the contrary.

The clock itself is a pretty cool travel clock. It's small and has a sleek design. It runs on batteries and is made for travelling. What I don't like about it is the fact you have to press a button for the backlighting to turn on (for 5 sec.). Plus you have to press another button to ask it what time it is. When i'm sleeping I don't want to have to reach over to see what time is. Also the alarm is not very loud.

I didn't listen to the complaints from the other reviewers, and I purchased this clock. Big mistake. Batteries are very difficult to put into the unit and they have to be jammed in to close the back. The plastic lip that is supposed to support the clock in the open position broke off, so I can't use the clock in the open position as it is supposed to do. Amazon should consider not offering this item any more. I purchased this unit over another only because I have the Prime shipping option.

Moshi Interactive Voice Recognition Travel Alarm Clock White Review

Moshi Interactive Voice Recognition Travel Alarm Clock White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item with not the highest expectations. Basically I wanted to get my brother a cool travel alarm clock with some kind of new technology. I figured if there was any kind of voice activation feature, great, but really I just wanted to get him something cheap and interesting and this seemed to be a good fit.
First thing I noticed: it's a lot tinier than I expected! Fits in the palm of your hand.
Second: as long as you speak clearly, the voice activation works great and is very intuitive! I even heard him moan 'shut off' one morning when it went off and even though I thought he was barely legible, it worked.
He's extremely happy with the present, and I am too.
PS- the alarm sounds are, um, interesting (read: bizarre choices), but certainly effective. I like the bells.

Does exactly what it says. Nothing fancy about it. It's small, sturdy and has a loud alarm. Had it for about a year and after a bit of abuse, it's starting to fail. Will probably be ordering another to replace the one I have. On the downside, it is a bit overpriced. Took a star off because of that.

It's very compact for travel which is nice but if you need an accurate alarm this is not the clock for you. I'm returning this item today because the alarm just doesn't function like it should. The alarm set dial on the face of the clock is in 10 minute increments. The alarm itself goes off plus or minus 7 or 8 minutes either way. One time it didn't go off at all.
It's great for time, not so great for an alarm clock.
