Blue Hat Kids Projection Alarm Clock, Blue Review

Blue Hat Kids Projection Alarm Clock, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This clock is the worst piece of junk that I've ever purchased. I bought this for my son a few months ago and took it out of his room tonight and told him that he could use my alarm clock until I buy him a new one. This piece of junk has numerous issues:
- the batteries do not work as back-up. If the clock gets unplugged, the batteries will not back up the electrical power
- the clock will reset itself and force you to reenter the date, time, etc.. by simply just scooting the clock over to dust, etc. Evidently, the cord that plugs into the bottom of the clock is ultra-sensitive
- it is very difficult to turn of the alarm when it goes off. Rather than switching the alarm to "off", you have to click about three specific buttons to shut the stupid thing off. And, this is supposed to be made for kids??
Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this thing. You'll end up wasting more money by buying a replacement a few months later.

Blue Hat Toy Company Kid's Projection Alarm Clock, Blue Review

Blue Hat Toy Company Kid's Projection Alarm Clock, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The idea for this clock sounds good: a rocket ship design with the ability to project the time and a space image on the ceiling or wall. The Blue Hat Toy Company, however, must have given their Chinese manufacturer a generic requirements list, and instructed them to start pumping out units, without ever testing them first.
Within 5 minutes of plugging in the clock, I found major flaws in usability. First, if you want to pivot the time and space images, so they are over your kid's bed or on the opposite wall, the images are upside-down. The only place you can really put the clock is directly next to (or above) the kid's head, so they can see the time in the correct orientation. Maybe I'm the only parent who puts their kid's headboard against a wall, instead of the center of the room...
Second, you cannot turn the alarm off without going into the alarm or time settings. Pushing any other button will activate the 5-minute snooze setting (who wants their kid hitting the snooze button every 5 minutes, when they are supposed to be getting up?) The alarm never turns off on its own. How will a sleepy 3 year-old remember which button to hold for 2 seconds in order to turn off the alarm?
Third, the lack of permanent lighting for the display is a major omission (the product images make it look like it is an included feature). If the time is not being projected, the kid has no idea what time it is unless they start pushing buttons on the unit to activate the light for a few seconds.
I'm glad I didn't keep this for more than an hour, or else I might have run into the problems that others have reported: bulbs burning out, projector not working after being knocked over, etc.

Atomic Projection Clock Review

Atomic Projection Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This clock has a small footprint and the projection quality is good. I enjoy the projection feature. Setup was not too complicated. It didn't take much time for the clock to receive a signal from the outdoor receiver or to receive a signal from the atomic clock. This unit did come with the DC adapter which means the projection is able to stay on all the time and I like that. The buttons in the back are a bit touchy. If you pick up the clock to move it, you will most likely inadvertently push a button which is a bit annoying, but the good definitely outweighs the bad. Overall...excellent value for the features.

jWin JL365 Dual Alarm Clock with Projection and AM/FM Radio (Black) Review

jWin JL365 Dual Alarm Clock with Projection and AM/FM Radio (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good:
- Nice big display, with blue digits, instead of usual red ones.
- External audio input for your mp3 player.
- Digital tuner with radio stations.
- Two independent alarms.
- Relatively cheap compared to other projection alarm clocks
The bad:
- Display too bright, and no way to make it dimmer
- Can't rotate projection display
- Can't focus projection display
- Have to set time on projection display separately
- CAN'T ADJUST VOLUME OF THE ALARM
I wish I knew you can't adjust volume of the alarm before I purchased the clock, because it's a deal breaker for me. The thing is loud as hell, and there is no way to make it quieter. Next time I'll buy one of those alarm clocks, that gradually increase the volume of the alarm until you hit snooze.
Bottom line? I wouldn't recommend it.
UPDATE (12/15/2010):
Maybe my particular unit is broken, but it seems to have a problem where every now and then, the screen turns white and stops displaying any time at all. The clock becomes unresponsive, and unplugging/plugging it in doesn't fix the problem. After a few days it starts working again. The first time it happened was a weekend so no biggie. The second time it happened during the week, and I ended up oversleeping for work. The clock promptly ended up in a garbage can. I'm looking for a replacement - will post it here when I find it.

La Crosse Technology WT-5220U-IT Projection Alarm Clock with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature Review

La Crosse Technology WT-5220U-IT Projection Alarm Clock with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We absolutely LOVE this thing. It's so nice to be able to look up at the ceiling and know what the time is and whether to pull the covers up tighter and snuggle a little longer. I've had a projection alarm before that was in a blue light. It was so bright you could read by it and I found myself covering it up to block the light. This one has a soft red light that doesn't burn your retinas through your eyelids. We live in a very cold climate, this winter even more so than usual. Being able to see the outside temperature without having to even roll over has been nice. The only issue is if the electricity is turned off you have to set the temp sensor again. Other than that, it's so great my husband wants to get them as Christmas presents for his employees next year.

You'll know if it's cold outside even before you get out of bed in the morning. For that matter, with the La Crosse Projection Alarm Clock, you won't even have to turn your head. Just a quick glance at the ceiling tells you the time and temperature. The clock monitors indoor and outdoor temperature, relative humidity, and the time in hours, minutes, and seconds on a clear digital screen. Or use the projection feature to display the info on the ceiling or wall. Use the projection arm to adjust the display toward any flat surface you can see from bed. Included sensor sends wireless signal to the station from up to 330 feet. Constantly updates as often as every 4 seconds for immediate weather information. No assembly required. Atomic time and date automatically resets to Daylight Savings Time. Alarm includes snooze function. Receiver measures 3.6 x 5.6 x 1.4 inches. Operates with the included AC power adapter or 4 AA Alkaline batteries (batteries sold separately).

Magnasonic MAG-MM178K AM/FM Projection Clock Radio with Dual Alarm, Auto Time Set/Restore, Motion Activated Snooze, Temperature Display and Battery Backup Review

Magnasonic MAG-MM178K AM/FM Projection Clock Radio with Dual Alarm, Auto Time Set/Restore, Motion Activated Snooze, Temperature Display and Battery Backup
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a nice clock, it has all the feature I am looking for, but some detail feel could be polished
PRO:
1. It has dual alarm, configurable as weekday or weekend
2. projector can be turn to right direction
3. IR sensor works good
4. It has AM/FM ( I am not that kind favor of it though, but believe this is a feature some people may like)
CON:
1. Size is bulky than I expected,
2. There are extra two thin wire hanging out ugly. these are temp sensor and FM antenna, this is bad and really ugly to have two extra wire other than the power cord.
3. The projector doesn't have information other than time
4. The projector can not be turn on independent to the LED window, In the night, I like the LED off but projector on, but this unit can not do this.
5. The unit manual say automatic time setting. I didn't see it has any indicator to show it pick up atomic clock radio signal, and I see it show the time offset to my other atomic radio control clock, didn't get it what is "automatic" here.
6. FM tuning is not smooth, the switch is very sensitive, and a careless soft touch can change the signal. And the band can not be locked correct.
7. There are no FM/AM presets
8. speaker does not deliver good sound.
Although I list more point of improvement it could have than the PRO bullets, overall, I believe this is a good one. Hopefully it is also reliable over a long time. This need wait a while to see.

La Crosse Technology WT-5360U Atomic Projection Alarm Clock Review

La Crosse Technology WT-5360U Atomic Projection Alarm Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not surprisingly, I chose this clock for 3 reasons: it sets itself, it projects the time on the ceiling/wall, and it's quite inexpensive. After a needlessly painful setup (more on that later) it set its own time, and the time projected on the ceiling is easy to read with my glasses on (just barely readable w/o glasses).
The first problem I encountered was plugging the power supply into the clock. It uses a standard coaxial DC power connector that plugs into a socket on the bottom of the clock. Unfortunately, the hole through which you access the socket is not only much larger than the socket, but so much larger than the socket housing (a box containing the socket connector) that unless you have sharp eyes and carefully align the plug with the socket, the plug will slip into the gap between the socket housing and the hole in the clock case.
After getting the power connected, I left for work, and when I returned, the clock showed the correct time--only off by 3 hours. OK, so I needed to set the time zone. There are no buttons labeled "time zone", "TZ" or anything similar. A quick check of the manual (don't lose that manual!) revealed an unintuitive process for setting the time zone (typical of devices that don't have enough buttons):
1. Hold down the "Mode" button for 3 seconds. The currently selected time zone will be displayed.
2. Click the "Mode" button until your time zone appears.
3. Click the "Snooze" button.
Despite its poor design features, this clock basically works as advertised and is inexpensive. Since most of the time, you won't need to touch it, if you can read relatively dim, red 3" numbers on your ceiling, then it's probably a good choice. Just don't lose the manual!

No more patting around for the glasses to check the time after than early morning alarm. This projection clock beams huge digits, visible to the blurriest of eyes, on walls, ceilings and other smooth surfaces. Every time it's plugged in or turned on, the clock sets itself for precision time by receiving radio signals from the official US Atomic Clock. That means it also shifts automatically to and from Daylight Savings Time, so there's no more showing up to work an hour late or early twice a year. The unit also reports indoor temperatures and features an LED backlight for easy readouts without using the projection feature. The projection arm rotates for proper viewing at any angle-without rolling over. Open the eyes. Read the time. Close the eyes. An automatic focus mechanism presents clear readouts on any smooth surface. And, a perpetual calendar helps you stay on schedule. Hang it on the wall or set it up on a desk with the detachable stand. AC power adapter included.

Westclox Projection alarm clock 70006 Review

Westclox Projection alarm clock 70006

We looked at several projection clocks on the internet before choosing this one. When we plugged it in, the projection was horrible! It had about a 3x3 red square that you couldn't even see the time. Then when we wrote the company about returning it, they first refused the return, saying we "damaged" the package. I would like to know how am I supposed to get the lousy clock out w/out even opening it?!? Finally they did accept the return and got the money back.

GPX CC319B AM/FM Clock Radio with Dual Alarms and Top Load CD Player (Black) Review

GPX CC319B AM/FM Clock Radio with Dual Alarms and Top Load CD Player (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this radio five days ago. I needed a decent clock radio that played cds, had a repeat button, and was unobtrusive enough to be on the nightstand. When the radio showed up there were no instructions in the box, which I figured was okay since it's just a clock radio. After I got it plugged in and the time set, I tried to play a cd. The power button wouldn't turn it on. With no instructions I felt stupid not being able to figure it out. I left it plugged in over night and the alarm worked fine on the morning. The next night I tried the power button again and was able to play a cd all night to help me sleep. The cd player makes a whirring noise that was distracting. Since my sleep cds are mostly white noise the extra noise was annoying. I think if it was music it might not have been so noticeable. The next night I was all set to play a cd at bedtime and, again, no power. That was Thursday night and it's now Sunday and, with the exception of the clock and alarm, there hasn't been power since the second night. I don't hear any short so I think it's just a bad machine, maybe too cheap. I'm returning it tomorrow.

Suspended Animation Clock- Silver w/ BLUE LED Review

Suspended Animation Clock- Silver w/ BLUE LED
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Product is made of very cheap plastic. While active, the unit shakes quite a bit. The actual blue LED is kind of cool, but after a couple minutes it's very annoying and it's near impossible to see at a distance. There is no on/off switch, only unplugging and doing so causes the date/time/custom messages to be erased. Wish I wouldn't have destroyed the box or I would return it. Now I'm stuck with a paper weight that will never be turned on again.
I do not recommend this product at all.

Timex T736S Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Time Projector and Jumbo Display Review

Timex T736S Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Time Projector and Jumbo Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Four and a Half ACCURATE Stars! This dual-alarm clock, with battery backup and manually-tuned AM/FM radio, sets the time "out of the box" when you plug it in: for the eastern time zone: alarming perfectly in sync with my iPhone. It has large red numbers/letters that can be seen, at night, from across the room. The AM/FM radio has very good sound for music or talk radio. The dual alarms allow for 'everyday', 'weekdays only' and 'weekends only' alarms using buzzer, radio, or "soothing sounds". The time projector can be manually rotated thru 90 degrees for wall or ceiling projection of large red 12 inch to 24 inch numbers; and the display can be inverted, focused, or turned off completely. Wake up at night and see the time on the ceiling: no eyeglasses needed for me! If they had added a 'weather' radio band that my other clock radio has, and an AM/FM remote, it would have earned this clock radio the extra half-star rating star, but that 'other' clock radio doesn't project time on the ceiling and it blinks after a power outage while the Timex automatically resets the time. I like this Timex T736S very much and it's now 'pulling duty' in a primary bedroom. Highly Recommended! Four and a half PRECISE Stars! (Rating upgraded on 8/19/2011 after a power outage that proved it's auto reset value.)

I actually have this clock. The ceiling display can be rotated from 0-90 degrees, or there it a button to rotate 180degrees -- giving you 360 degrees. Its sittin on my nightstand, approx. 12 feet from me, right now, and I can read the LCD display from here. It's designed to not be a bright light when you're sleeping, and when the alarm goes off it auto-lights the LED and the LCD displays, so you can see it. :)

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're just looking for a great alarm clock, this is it! The time automatically sets as soon as it's plugged in. The function buttons are easy to use & not too small. Thankfully, the clock is smaller than it appears in the photo, it's trim & neat. The sound is clear & strong. I like the added feature of weekday/weekend alarm, I never have to turn it off. My one concern was that I like to set my clock a few minutes fast, but no problem, not only could I manually adjust the time, but when I unplugged the clock it not only had the correct time when I replugged it, it also kept the time I had adjusted it to. After you hit the snooze button the alarm light blinks to let you know that the alarm is still active and will be going off again in 9 or 10 minutes. I was searching for an alarm clock for a while, this one makes me very happy.

Electric Avenue 72-070 Trademark Home Collection Multifunction LCD Clock Review

Electric Avenue 72-070 Trademark Home Collection Multifunction LCD Clock

Face it, you can't handle a snooze button. You abuse it too much. I've mechanically slapped a snooze button every fifteen minutes for over three hours before. I have no will power.
You need a clock like this, a clock that shrills at you once and only once. You get up, or you don't get up. It is too difficult to reset it during your morning funk (though easy enough to set it at night) so you really just have to get out of bed. It teaches you discipline.
But honestly, the best feature of this clock is how to turn of the alarm: you punch the clock. Oh God is that satisfying.
I popped out the batteries and took this thing with me across Europe as my travel alarm and it was perfect, just lovely. It fits anywhere and even my myopic eyes can read those big numbers in the morning. My only complaint is that to turn on the light to read it in the evening you have to punch it, and then scroll through the date, temperature, and other settings before it gets back to time.
Seriously though, this is a classic and stable alarm clock.
