Sony ICF-CD853V AM/FM/TV/Weather Clock Radio/CD Player Review

Sony ICF-CD853V AM/FM/TV/Weather Clock Radio/CD Player
Average Reviews:

Very nice clock. Although sound is a little thin (but what do you expect from a clock radio), it's very clean and detailed. CD transport works very well, plays all my CD-Rs and RWs without a hitch. Pros: Big display (easy to read), digital tuner, nice button layout, very easy to set the alarms, brightness control (although manual.) Cons: cannot set alarms separately for weekdays/weekends, no gentle wake, very brights not-dimmable LEDs that shine brigther that the LCD screen itself, need a longer FM antenna for better reception.
I'm returning it to get the next model in line (ICF-CD863V), which has automatic dimmer control, gentle wake, and slightly better sound.

La Crosse Technology WT-5220U-IT Projection Alarm Clock with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature Review

La Crosse Technology WT-5220U-IT Projection Alarm Clock with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We absolutely LOVE this thing. It's so nice to be able to look up at the ceiling and know what the time is and whether to pull the covers up tighter and snuggle a little longer. I've had a projection alarm before that was in a blue light. It was so bright you could read by it and I found myself covering it up to block the light. This one has a soft red light that doesn't burn your retinas through your eyelids. We live in a very cold climate, this winter even more so than usual. Being able to see the outside temperature without having to even roll over has been nice. The only issue is if the electricity is turned off you have to set the temp sensor again. Other than that, it's so great my husband wants to get them as Christmas presents for his employees next year.

You'll know if it's cold outside even before you get out of bed in the morning. For that matter, with the La Crosse Projection Alarm Clock, you won't even have to turn your head. Just a quick glance at the ceiling tells you the time and temperature. The clock monitors indoor and outdoor temperature, relative humidity, and the time in hours, minutes, and seconds on a clear digital screen. Or use the projection feature to display the info on the ceiling or wall. Use the projection arm to adjust the display toward any flat surface you can see from bed. Included sensor sends wireless signal to the station from up to 330 feet. Constantly updates as often as every 4 seconds for immediate weather information. No assembly required. Atomic time and date automatically resets to Daylight Savings Time. Alarm includes snooze function. Receiver measures 3.6 x 5.6 x 1.4 inches. Operates with the included AC power adapter or 4 AA Alkaline batteries (batteries sold separately).

La Crosse Technology WS-8117U-IT-C Digital Wall Clock, with Temperature and Moon Phase Review

La Crosse Technology WS-8117U-IT-C Digital Wall Clock, with Temperature and Moon Phase
Average Reviews:

I've had this clock for a month now, and it works great. After setting the clock, it took about 2 days to receive the signal from the time laboratory in Colorado. I purchased the model with the cherry finish and the finish looks high quality. Goes perfectly with the cherry cabinets in my office. The outside temperature sensor is very accurate. Always within +/- 1F of weather.com. I had no problems installing the outside temperature sensor (attached to siding under my covered porch). Several reviewers mentioned the counter-intuitive moon phase display (the shaded graphic display represents that part of the moon that's exposed to the sun vs. using the unshaded graphic to represent this)so I had no problem adjusting to this because I was already forwarned. I definitely would recommend this clock.

Accurate temperature reads, but the unit can't be too far from the transmitter, otherwise it doesn't work. I've worked out a place for the unit, but it isn't where I wanted it to be.

Honeywell TN924W Weather Information Station, Black Review

Honeywell TN924W Weather Information Station, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to write my own review of the Honeywell TN924W after reading the reviews here. I agree with almost all of the statements here, both pro and con. But most of the complaints are subjective, and what kills the unit for some might be acceptable for others.
Although the unit can display lots of information, it can only display a few pieces of data at a time. The buttons to cycle through the different types of data are inconveniently located on the back of the unit. While not ideal, you will get used to the "touch and feel" system after awhile. However, this precludes mounting the unit on a wall using the included bracket. This is a rather bad oversight, in my opinion.
The station will drop the signal from the remote sensors, too. This is an annoyance, but an easy fix once you learn how to force the unit to search for signals (Just hold down the "down" button on the back for a few seconds). Unfortunately, the included manual is pretty bad and not much help in finding solutions for the quirks of the Honeywell. I downloaded an updated PDF version from the Honeywell website that is much better.
One reviewer stated that the backlight is too bright. The backlight can be turned on, off, or set on automatic. If you find it to be too bright, you can always turn it off.
The Honeywell TN924W is the only weather station I have ever owned or am familiar with, so I cannot compare it to anything else. While not perfect, I am very happy with mine. I recently received the Weather View 32 software for uploading my weather data to my personal website, Weather Underground, and CWOP. It took some figuring out, but everything is up and running wonderfully.
The Honeywell TN924W is an impressive little unit, with lots of features and tons of potential. But it is not without its quirks. Remember that it is a piece of technical scientific equipment. If you don't have the patience to learn the unit and work through a few minor issues, you could very well become frustrated. Don't expect it to work perfectly right out of the box. You need to go through a somewhat lengthy setup process, and you need to do some research (find your latitude, longitude, and elevation) to complete the setup.

With a new double-tool design, the Honeywell TE924W All Weather Station with Public Alert boasts an elegant glossy finish that is perfect for modern decors. The Honeywell TE924W is the quickest, most accurate, and most convenient way of keeping track of the weather in and around your home or office, as well as emergency information you may not want to miss.
The TE924W allows you to monitor temperature and humidity, wind speed and direction, and even rainfall in multiple remote locations at the same time, all while providing you with the most accurate timekeeping available. Additionally, the main display is a NOAA weatherband receiver with S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) alert functionality that automatically turns it on during an emergency broadcast. This system comes with a compact main display unit and three different Honeywell remote sensor units. And with an effective transmission range from 100 to up to 328 feet, you can install these remote sensors virtually anywhere in or near the house.
The three Honeywell remote sensors consist of: an anemometer that measures wind speed and direction, a rain gauge that measures rainfall amount, and a thermo-hygrometer for measuring both temperature and humidity. If you need to know information from multiple locations, you can purchase up to four more remote sensors and use them all via the main display unit's seven-channel capability. The TE924W even stores up to 200 weather records without a PC connection, and comes with a built-in USB port and PC software for syncing with your computer. And not only does this system display the temperature, but provides you with a 12- to 24-hour weather forecast with easy-to-interpret graphical icons, such as clouds, rain, sunshine and more.
The TE924W utilizes easy-to-read digits on a bright, blue backlit LCD display that allows you to read its information at a glance day or night with its automatic backlight control. As an added convenience, this system contains a programmable ice warning alarm, which lets you know when a frost is predicted so you can take precautions. Users will also delight in this system's wide outdoor temperature range, which can range from -38 to 158 degrees F when powered by lithium batteries, making it suitable for virtually any application.
More than just a personal weather station, the TE924W includes a built-in clock that can display the current time in 12- or 24-hour format. And this clock really will display the current time, since it receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Not only does this consistently adjust the clock to within one second of official U.S. government, but automatically adjusts the time for Daylight Savings Time as well. What's more, this clock comes with dual alarms that feature a crescendo tone and a programmable snooze function, as well as a user-friendly sunrise and sunset calculator, and a moon phase calendar. As convenient as it is accurate, the display unit sits easily on your desktop and can go wherever you do. The main display is powered by the included AC power adapter for running the automatic backlight control, while the remote sensors run on a total of 10 AA batteries (not included). The TE924W main display unit and all the remote sensors in this system are backed by a manufacturer's one-year warranty.
What's in the Box Honeywell TE924W long-range weather station with clock and public alert system, remote anemometer sensor, remote rain gauge sensor, remote thermo-hygrometer sensor, CD-ROM with PC software, user's guide and warranty information.

Philips AJ260 Weather Station Clock Radio Review

Philips AJ260 Weather Station Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading all the other reviews I wasn't too sure. But reading between the lines I decided to take a chance. I bit the bullet and bought it and so far I am happy I did. I did find one thing I would like changed, one thing I would like enhanced.
The negative and needing changed is that the dual alarms will both sound by the same method. Either both by buzzer or both by radio. I personally like to use one alarm by radio, one by buzzer. That gives me a gentle wake up and then a reminder alert a little later.
To make the clock better, it would be nice if you could dim the weather LED. It is bright, no doubt about it. You can set it so that it only comes on for 10 seconds when you press a button, but I'd still like to see it dimmable.
As far as the other complaints... almost all the bad reviews could be corrected and attributed to user error. If people would RTFM before moaning, life would be easier.
Time resets to central but you live in the west, well read the manual. Not getting the auto time update, RTFM. Weather indicator light stays lit and keeps you up at night, read the manual. Outside temperature sensor giving inaccurate readings, read the flipping manual and mount the sensor in an appropriate place. As far as the sensor only measuring barometric pressure indoors and not outside, well unless you live in a submarine or a minute-man missile silo and use the airlock, the pressure inside and outside your house are the same. Humidity might be different, but pressure is the same, and that is what gives the clock its rudimentary weather predictions. Yes, it is really basic weather predictions, but what do you expect. It's a clock radio, not a meteorologist. Turn on the radio if you want more details.
I'd buy one again, but I would prefer separate buzz/radio selections for each alarm.

The Sharper Image Luminight Weahter Station & Atomic Clock with Handsfree Snooze Review

The Sharper Image Luminight Weahter Station and Atomic Clock with Handsfree Snooze
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The weather station remote sensor will not link up with the main unit, even if they are 2 feet apart. The users manual instructs you how to change channels I tried all four nothing worked. The clock did initially did not link up with the atomic clock signal so I set it outside for an hour and it established the link. The website is defunct and there is no listing to find another remote sensor unit in the users manual. The clock works like a champ though.

La Crosse Technology Ws-8117U-It Atomic Wall Clock With Indoor And Outdoor Temperature And Moon Phase Review

La Crosse Technology Ws-8117U-It Atomic Wall Clock With Indoor And Outdoor Temperature And Moon Phase
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I checked very carefully, and this *is* the model I have. This is a GREAT, easy to set up, easy to use product that I wouldn't trade for anything. It has been prominent in my kitchen for over a year now, and I love it!
There is a slight catch: you do have to read the directions. Apparently, this a far more daunting challenge for most people than I would have guessed, as they only took me about five minutes to read.
Yes, the moon phases can appear backwards, but the illuminated portion of the clock matches the illuminated portion of the moon. This is a very minor complaint and after I got used to it (again, about five minutes), it hasn't thrown me off since.
Again, yes, you have to put a thermometer outside to have the outside temperature. I'm not sure what the other reviewer was expecting. On the plus side, I've always found it extremely accurate, and what's more, the signal appears to be able to pass through an entire house with no problem.
But, no, this clock adjusts itself and I haven't had to worry about resetting it for a long time.
I love this thing and never plan on replacing it with anything else. After reading these other reviews, I guess my only complaint is that it doesn't have a drink ready for me when I get home.
BTW, I find myself using the moon phases a lot more than I would've guessed.

Oregon Scientific BAR338PA ExactSet Projection Clock with Cable-Free Weather Forecaster Review

Oregon Scientific BAR338PA ExactSet Projection Clock with Cable-Free Weather Forecaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the best purchases I have made of recent memory. It is one of those gadgets that every person can appreciate. The projection gives you the unique advantage of seeing the time from anywhere in the room. The indiglo is also really cool, if the projection is off. This clock works off batteries (there is an ac adapter for the projector) so it is easy to take with you if you are traveling. I put the outdoor monitor in my window, and I can constantly tell what the temperture and upcoming weather is. The best part is, the clock is tuned into the atomic clock, and is constantly setting itself for accuracy. This little guy is also pretty tough, I have tripped over the cord for the AC adapter twice (I can't tell you how infuriating this is), knocking it hard to my hardwood floor. Its still kicking. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who appreciates a good gadget, I have loved it since I bought it.
