They did short change us one L.E.D that was easily found at Digi Key. As far as the clock goes the procedure on adjusting the time is not clear so changing it is a pain in the neck. All in all it was fun for my son to do. If you have someone who is just getting into electronics it is a good buy.

The display is hugh so it can be easily viewed from across the room and there is a dimmer setting if you want a low level of brightness. The control buttons are large and easy to use. Chaney Instruments Thor Large Display Alarm Clock Review

What a great surprise! I ordered this simply to have a clock in the bedroom that could be read in the dark without glasses... and that is exactly what I got, but much much more! I plugged this guy in and it showed the correct time! Checked the instruction pamphlet (actually printed large enough to read!) and found that this clock will automatically keep up with the correct time and automatically reset for changes to daylight savings and back! This is great for me because we have a lot of clocks and getting them all changed twice a year is a real chore... especially the ones that require two buttons pushed at once or whatever. I've been buying expensive atomic clocks simply to get rid of this problem, but this one is MUCH better than an atomic, where you have to diddle with getting good reception and then wait while it updates... sometimes overnight! This little guy is programmed for all time zones, just flip a well labeled switch on the back to select yours... not a menu, a good old switch that you just have to change one time! What a great invention... I hope all clocks will adopt this system. NO worry about power outages, no problems if you're moving... just unplug it and plug it in at your new location... it kept time while it was unplugged!
And as far as being readable in the dark, the numbers are so big it's almost scarey when you look at it at night... 10 STARS!
I'll get back with an update if I discover any problems or failures.
UPDATE after one year of use.
1. This clock has never failed to show the correct time and has never failed to alarm properly, even in my rural area where power blips are a norm.
2. One reviewer says there's no way to change the time if it's wrong... that's INCORRECT!
3. One reviewer can't figure how the clock knows what time it is... well obviously it's set initially in the factory... but probably the reviewer was just joking. It is set up and maintains its settings with a small battery which is rated "up to 5 years" durability.
4. Another reviewer pulled the batteries and says this ruined his clock... can't imagine why he'd pull the batteries in the first place, but I do know there are instructions for doing this. Do note that the clock itself is the plug-in type... it only uses the battery to power the memory/setup chip.
After a year of use, this is still my favorite clock and I get mad every time I have to change batteries on my Atomic Clocks because they are such a hassle and I paid over twice as much for them. This is the one to buy. I am looking for Chaney to come out with one that can show me the outdoor temperature as well and I'll scrap all my junky atomics.

(More customer reviews)I've had a couple of atomic clocks and this one was the easiest to set up (1.install the batteries 2.put on self 3.wait for the clock to connect and synch - not sure how long this took; UPS delivered the clock when I got home from work, installed the batteries & when I got up the next morning, time, date was synch'ed). I personally would have liked more contrast on the clock face: the background is greenish and the numbers are not easy to see from across the room.

Pick Your Color LCD Alarm Clock Review

(More customer reviews)This clock is everything I was looking for (well, almost - it would be nice if it was atomic as well). It is small and slim, barely takes any space by the bed). The display is large enough to be seen from across the room. Very simple with one alarm (which I rarely would use). It is easy to set (the only drawback is that the numbers only go one way but there is a separate set for hour and minute so it makes it easier). It displays in 12/24 hour mode which is really nice and you can see the seconds going by (which to me is a BIG plus). The colors are very nice (yes, I like to play with this feature) and they set like a puzzle - there are three little buttons that you push in various ways and they determine the color of the display). At night, it is not too bright and you can see the display easily. The date and day feature is helpful as well. Have you ever woken up on a Saturday or Sunday thinking it's a work day? One look at the clock and you won't be confused anymore :) Overall, I am very pleased with this clock and would recommend it for someone who likes simplicity.

the product description is a bit confusing. it says
*Powered by 4.5V AC adapter or AAA batteries. (not included)
*LED power by 4 x AAA batteries (not included)
*LCD screen powered by 2 x AG13 batteries (included).
to clarify, the 2 x AG13 batteries power the actual clock including the lcd screen. you can power the led light with either a power adapter or four aaa batteries. the power adapter will not power the clock itself. some clocks are powered by an adapter and have batteries as a backup, but this is not the case for this clock as i expected. the lcd screen and clock are powered completely independently from the led light inside.

there is a switch on the bottom of the clock that has three modes: "demo", "off" and "on". "demo" will keep the LED light on and disables the alarm off. "off" keeps the alarm and the LED off. "on" enables the alarm and keeps the LED on. if the switch is set to "off" then you can hit the top of the clock and the led will light up for a few seconds and then fade. you cannot turn the LED light off while the alarm is set, which may be a problem if the light will keep you awake while you are trying to sleep. the led is on a color wheel and the color constantly changes -- you cannot choose a color for it to stay at. it is so beautiful though. whenever i feel sad i just look at the clock and say "hi cubis!" (i named my clock "cubis") and i feel better again.

every time you hit a button on the bottom of the clock it makes a beep. this is inconvenient because i cannot set my alarm when my roommate is sleeping unless i take it out of the room. there is no way to disable this sound.

i put in 4 aaa batteries and left the switch on demo. the led drained the batteries in about 100 hours (about 4 days). if you set the alarm every day before you sleep and you sleep for 8 hours, the batteries will die in 12 days. luckily the alarm is powered separately by the ag13 batteries.

the manual is this one-page slip of paper and the directions were obviously translated from another language. the directions are only mildly helpful and do not tell you everything you need to know, so you'll have to experiment a little.

(More customer reviews)At first glance, this clock has a clean graphic interface and nicely uncluttered design, but (as another reviewer has also noted) it harbors a major, deeply irritating flaw that only becomes apparent after you actually try to use it on a daily basis: Its viewing angle is very constricted, making the time and date display difficult to see except from certain limited perspectives. I bought it to assist a relative who has memory problems, and it concerns me that there may be many disabled or elderly individuals out there who purchased this clock hoping to make life easier. It does precisely the opposite. When the numbers and date appear blazing bright at one moment and then suddenly dim or disappear with a slight shift in perspective, it could provoke needless confusion and fleeting anxiety about one's vision. I'm amazed that the manufacturer allowed the release of something with such poor engineering. Would strongly recommend *against* buying this awful clock!

TimeSmart Self-Setting Alarm Clock Review

(More customer reviews)I saw it in Brookstone a few days ago and was totally sold on the idea of "self-setting". Well, that's actually not very true.
Pros:
Large display with adjustable levels. The blue display also looks a lot better than the usual green or red.
The alarms are easy to use.
It "should" be able to automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time.
Cons:
Brookstone is intentionally vague about what they mean by "self-setting". No, it doesn't connect to the US atomic clock as some reviewers say. It was merely pre-set in the factory, and sustained by the battery. If you look at their manual ([...]) you will understand why: if you "reset" the clock, it won't reset to the current time. I didn't realize this until I was trying out the features and inadvertently changed the original clock. I thought by "resetting" the clock it will adjust back automatically. Nope. This was the feature that I thought was worth the price tag, but now I just feel cheated. The clock does use a battery (pre-installed). So it is not really "self-setting".
While it stores the day/month/year info, there is no way to show them on the clock screen.
And, it's a lot easier and more tempting to turn of the alarms than snoozing: the button to turn it off is a lot taller than the snooze button.
Overall, it's not a bad one even if it is not really automatic. I just wish they were more straightforward about what it really is.

22700 - DUAL DIG. ALARM Review

(More customer reviews)Pretty straight forward clock, but I must say it was a little bigger than I expected. It's going to be great when I lose my sight/hearing because the numbers are enormous and the alarm is super loud - even on the "low" setting it's a screamer. Fine with me, I'm getting used to it, but it was certainly a shock the first time. It has dual alarms, which is why I ordered it, and a super simple setup which is what I wanted. Minimal things to do on the interface, yay. I hate alarms that require reading the directions or have tiny little buttons all over them. This is a simple, utilitarian clock.

I love the Big Beautiful Blue Display on this Clock Radio. I can easily read it from across the room. I bought it mainly for use as a bedroom clock. As a clock, I would give it 5 stars.
The Radio part is a different story. The controls are very crude, and have a cheap feel to them. Tuning in stations is a pain. The sound quality is like what I would expect from something this size, just okay. For me, this is a radio that I have tuned to a local station, and it will likely stay that way. I don't intend to use the radio much, except maybe as an alarm clock. As a Radio, I would give it 1 to 2 stars. Not too bad if you always keep it on the same station.
If you are looking for a Nice Clock with a Big Time Display, and don't care much about the radio, I would Recommend this item.
