JMC-180 Micro Hi-Fi System Review

JMC-180 Micro Hi-Fi System
Average Reviews:

When I got the item I was pleased with the look, and the wall-mount installation looked great. BUT...the sound quality is not what I expected from a Jenson product. Not enough watts I guess, and the speakers have like NO base reflex. The sound is tinny, and when you turn it up it just gets more annoying. Also was disappointed that the remote control can only advance, pause, or rewind the songs on a CD. The remote can not adjust volume or do anything not related to CD playback. Also was disappointed that there is no way to have FM STATION PRE-SETS. The FM is a rotary dial for tuning. The station frequency does show up on the LED screen which is cool. Also...you would think the clock would stay lit up when the unit is off. it is, after all, an alarm clock as well. It doesn't stay lit. SO...feature-wise...this is a very disappointing product. Looks-wise...Great! You make the call. What do ya get for under 40 bucks? I should have spent more.

Sony CMT-LX20i 10W RMS Total Power Output Micro Hi-Fi Shelf System Review

Sony CMT-LX20i 10W RMS Total Power Output Micro Hi-Fi Shelf System

I was not certain of the value for money when I purchased the Sony CMT Hi Fi but from the reviews on Amazon I thought it was a safe purchase. I must say it more then met my expectations, the unit is compact but well designed and took up 1/3 less space than the unit it replaced (a "boombox" with two separate speakers) and weighed 2/3rds less. The sound quality is equal if not better and the iPod docking unit is seamless to use. I was impressed with the digital radio and the CD player is probably the least of the package but still works well. Overall I am very satisfied with the product.

Sony CMT-FX300i - Micro system with iPod cradle - radio / CD / MP3 - gloss black Review

Sony CMT-FX300i - Micro system with iPod cradle - radio / CD / MP3 - gloss black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sony has been making micros for over a decade by now, and with digital music almost completely replacing the likes of cassette tapes and even CDs to some, the AV manufacturer has been slowly removing tape decks from their smaller systems. The FX300i is no exception. Some of Sony previous year's offerings, like the CMT-EH15 and EH25, still comes with a capable, albeit high profit margin tape deck that reminds you of those boomboxes from the 80s.
The primary purpose of the FX300i is to dock and charge your iPODs, and Sony could not be making this statement any clearer. Without any support for iPhones, the device will generate alot of noise when an iPhone is docked to the system without the airplane mode switched on. There is also no support for USB playback or recording, which can be found on the FX300i's equally new cousin, the FX200, which focuses on USB playback.
Compared to its older siblings, the FX300i offers a surprisingly fuller sound, and this is true when it is put up against EH15, EH25 and a few models from 2007-2008 like the CMT-EH10. Sony doesn't seem to have added anything new to the main unit, which contain essentially face-lifted parts from EH15/EH10. A good way to repackage something old and sell it as something new. Therefore, what's most likely to be responsible for the FX300i's sound are the new 4 Ohm speakers. The new deminutive full range drivers(8cm diameter each) seem to be producing more bass than treble, which makes the system sound more fluid than the EH15/EH25/EH10. The speaker's model model number is SS-CFX200, which is the same as those for the FX200. Therefore, given that both unit outputs 5W+5W of audio, it should be safe to assume that FX300i sounds as good as the FX200.
There is a new feature that comes with the FX300i, although not an important one. The system is now programmed to automatically shut down in 30 mins if it is not doing anything (no music, no signal). This function, called Auto Standby, may be switched on or off.
So here's a list of things for the FX300i that you may want to be aware of before deciding on buying this system:
1) Ipod support up to 2009's classic, but no support for iphone. The system will charge your iphones and ipods when switched on, however is not shielded from the GSM/3G signals.
2) Full Ipod/Iphone controls (on remote controller), including menu browsing, but menu browsing is very slow, as per any Ipod docks out there such as the JBL onstage IIIp.
3) No Ipod adaptors are given, so prepare to get one ready for your ipod.
4) Timer/Sleep functions as per any standard Sony micros.
5) No USB input.
6) One front line-in via a stereo 3.5mm jack and one 3.5mm headphone jack.
7) Amplifier output is 5W+5W RMS
8) DSG-X and preset EQs (Flat, Rock, Pop, Jazz) for sound control.
9) 8cm full-range drivers for two compact wooden speakers with frontal bass-reflex ports. Bass is very heavy around the 125-150Hz range, so do not expect deep thuds from this system unless you intend to pair it with better speakers. System support speakers with impedance 4 Ohms and above. Uses standard wire-clamps for speaker leads.
10) CD-RW support, including MP3 files recorded on CD-RWs. No ATRAC3 support.
11) No tape deck.

When I got this piece, there were no reviews at all, but still I wanted to buy it for its stylish looks. Frankly speaking, I didn't have much expectations on this prodcut interms of the sound quality, since its just 5W, but I was really surprised to see the sound it generates! Awesome sound quality - Too good for your bedroom. Obviously, you cannot compare it with a hometheatre system but for a iPod/iPhone dock, its way at the top. The FM radio, CD, AUX and USB ports are a big advantage and I was very pleased that it supports iPhone 3G and 3GS as well. I totally liked it and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Sony CMTBX5BT CMT Micro Component System with Bluetooth Technology Review

Sony CMTBX5BT CMT Micro Component System with Bluetooth Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Picked this one up at Best Buy (sorry, Amazon, but they had it marked down to $129.99) yesterday, along w/a Bluetooth dongle for my PC.
I brought a burned MP3 CD into the store with me, and not only did this little guy read it promptly, but it delivered quite crisp and (comparatively) loud playback. Lined up, side-by-side, with many other styles of shelf systems, the SONY looks stylish and slick (like the PSP). Of course, a lot of the others look like low-budget, B-movie rocket ships!! (My wife's observation).
So now, I have the unit at home, unpacked and plugged in. Here's where TWO major observations about the Bluetooth functionality became evident, and worth mentioning:
*This unit basically works like a pair of Bluetooth headphones. You must open your audio player on the PC, set up the playlist / music folders and you must begin the playing from the PC. This unit does NOT allow you to browse folders and choose playlists from within the stereo itself. Windows Media Player or WinAmp or the like MUST be running, and set up to play. This was a mild disappointment for about 2 minutes, until I remembered that the unit was only $130. The functionality is STILL a pretty nifty extra.
* I have an Ibook with OS X version 10.4 running, and built-in Bluetooth. Well, OS X 10.4 DOES NOT support the necessary communication protocols to work with this stereo. Won't work. However, version 10.5 (due in October 2007) reportedly DOES support these protocols. So, if you only have Macs in your home, be prepared to wait a bit. I'm not sure if plugging that Bluetooth dongle into the Mac USB port will add this functionality, but I doubt it.
So, to summarize:
Nice looking; clear, non-strident playback; well-priced; nicely-built; cool functionality.
Also, it has all the basics you expect; sleep and alarm functions (with separate vol. settings for each), shuffle, repeat, folder jumping (for MP3-burned discs), ID3 tag support, a nice little remote, etc.
I'm very pleased, all in all.

GPX HC208B Home Music System Vertical CD Player with AM/FM Radio and Digital Clock Includes Remote Control (Black) Review

GPX HC208B Home Music System Vertical CD Player with AM/FM Radio and Digital Clock Includes Remote Control (Black)
Average Reviews:

I bought this CD player mainly to hook up my laptop to it. I watch tv and movies on my laptop a lot, the screen is 15.4 inches, so it is easy enough to see it in my tiny little room, but the speakers aren't very good and even at full volume it was hard to hear if there was anything else going on in the house.
So I bought this. I had an RCA cord that would hook my laptop up to speakers with an a double RCA Audio In port. But this one only had audio out (to hook the cd player part up to the speakers). But I bought a cable from the local Staples for ten dollars that hooked the laptop into the CD player through the headphone jack in the laptop and the headphone jack style audio in on the CD player.
Over all I am pleased with the CD player. The sound quality is good, I have only used the maximum volume once, to see how loud it got, and was surpised at the quality of it and the volume. It serves my purposes.
I was also surprised at how small it is nice in my tiny little bedroom, and will be nice in the dorm room I will living in soon.
My only real complaint is that it is kind of difficult to change the time, I have managed to do it once, but I am not entirely sure how I did it. And the manual was very small, and therefore very easy to lose. Daylight savings time has happened since I bought it and the clock is now an hour off. Luckily it is kind of hard to read it anyways so I just go off of the other clock in my room.
I would recommend this CD player to anyone who wants to attatch it to an ipod or laptop (just get the right cord) and anyone who doesn't like things to be TOO loud. If you are one of those people who blast your music so loud the neighbors down the street can dance to it, than this probably isn't what your looking for.
