iHome iH16 Portable Speaker System for iPod (Gray) Review

iHome iH16 Portable Speaker System for iPod (Gray)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed to wake up to music and had specific criteria:
1. Alarm clock must work with iPod so I could set what song I woke up to
2. Clock must have bearable alarm sound just in case iPod is not available.
3. Clock must increase sound from silence incrementally so I'm not jarred out of sleep.
4. Clock must be small and portable so I can pick it up and walk with it while I get ready in the AM w/o waking hubby
5. Clock must work on batteries and wall plug that detaches
6. Clock must be white or silver
And with that said, this clock was so perfect it's like I imagined it! Not only that it's an travel clock so it's portable enough for trips. It does not have all the wiz bang of some of the other clocks but I really didn't need all of that. The unit is much smaller than it looks on the site and the speakers pack a serious punch (they are on the sides). I would buy this again and I've been recommending it to all my friends. Perfect!

This stylish travel iPod alarm clock is great for home or on the go. Wake and Sleep to your favorite music while charging your iPod.

Wake or Sleep to iPod Waking up to your favorite music is a great way to start the day. The iHM16 lets you wake to your iPod, gradually increasing the volume so as not to jar you out of sleep too forcefully. If there is no iPod present or there is no music detected on the iPod at alarm time, the iH16 will automatically switch to buzzer alarm, to make sure you get there on time. The requisite nine-minute snooze is also included, since it takes some of us a little longer to get out of bed.

You can adjust the sleep timer from 90, 60, 30 or 15 minutes, and the sleep features a volume setting independent from the alarm volume.

Charge Your iPod While you're recharging in your sleep, your iPod's filling up on electricity, so when you hit the pavement your iPod will be ready to go.

Dimmer Settings The snooze button also changes the dimmer, so you can adjust the display to your desired brightness. Choose from three settings.

Sure Alarm Provided you have installed four "AA" batteries, you'll still make it to work in the event of a power outage, thanks to iHome's "Sure Alarm" backup feature.

Quality Sound The iHM16 delivers great sound thanks to iHome's specially designed Reson8 speaker chambers. Reson8 is iHome's through-body ported speaker chamber technology. Porting speakers gives better bass response characteristics, and helps the iiHM16 deliver sound beyond its size.

Auxiliary Input The iHM16 features a standard 3.5mm "mini" jack, so you can connect MP3 players, CD players, or most any other audio device.

Three Tasty Colors Get an iHM16 to suit your style--available in lilac, gray, or blue.

iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock for iPod (Black) Review

iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this thing.
Here's the problem. If you have an ipod in the unit you cannot wake up to the buzzer, only the ipod. If you go to sleep with the ipod on, playing some mellow music at low volume, this is what you will hear for your morning alarm. It's not going to wake you. You cannot use the buzzer for an alarm unless you take the ipod out. What's the point of having it?
Mine is going back.

Perfect for the busy traveler, this portable iPod alarm clock speaker system lets you sleep or wake to your favorite iPod tunes or buzzer, or just enjoy a little music while your iPod charges. With a lock feature to maintain settings, battery or AC power, and a protective carrying case, it lets you take some room-filling sound nearly anywhere.

Charge and Play Your iPod Anywhere Play back your favorite tunes at home or while traveling with the iH27. While your iPod is docked, it receives a charge (when on AC power), so when you're ready to go, so is your iPod.

The iH27 power adapter is able to handle input voltage from 100 to 240 VA, so it'll work overseas with the right plug adapters. And because the iH27 is powered by either AC or four AA batteries (not included), you can enjoy music with or without an outlet. A handy carrying case is also included to keep the device safe and sound while in transit, whether it's a business trip or a barbecue.

Sleep or Wake to Your iPod The iH27 lets you wake to your docked iPod (or the buzzer alarm for you masochists). A gradual alarm feature gently raises the alarm volume, so as not to jar you out of sleep. You can also dim the display, with high, medium, low, and off settings.

The iH27 also has a sure alarm feature so the buzzer alarm will still sound in the event of power failure, if backup battery is installed.

And of course, there's a snooze button for grabbing a few more minutes of slumber and a sleep mode for falling asleep to your favorite tunes or podcasts.

Big Sound in a Small Package iHome's Reson8 technology, with through-body ported speaker chambers, gives the iH27's four speakers better response characteristics for superior stereo sound. In addition, SRS WOW technology is designed to provide a broader audio image with enhanced low-range and mid-range sound reproduction, in order to bring added life to compressed MP3 files.

Auxiliary Input and A/V Output Use the iH27's auxiliary input to connect external devices such as MP3 or CD players. You can also send the audio and/or video from the dock's A/V out to a television or stereo, for enjoying your iPod content on a larger scale.

What's in the Box iH27 main unit, AC adapter, iPod dock inserts, auxiliary cable, and user's manual.

Magnasonic MiC1000K Digital FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone with Dual Alarm & Auto Time Sync (Black) Review

Magnasonic MiC1000K Digital FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone with Dual Alarm and Auto Time Sync (Black)
Average Reviews:

I didn't need to look at the instructions to get this going and set the alarm. It is very easy to use.
The iPod/iPhone sits pretty high up. The dock is not recessed, and the unit is very light weight, so I have placed it on a shelf that is somewhat protected from my knocking it to the floor if and when I fumble for it to shut it off. It really does not seem very sturdy, and I question how long it will last, but, so far, it's working great.
The sound is nice and clear, and the fm radio reception is excellent. Much better than the other clock radio I have in my room. The charging connector for the my iPhone fits nicely and works well. I gave it four of five stars, because it works well, but feels kind of cheap, even at this price level.

XtremeMac Luna Voyager for iPhone/iPod - Black Review

XtremeMac Luna Voyager for iPhone/iPod - Black

I bought this unit for my son for Christmas for use with his Ipod Nano 5G. According to the Apple website, these two products are compatible. However, when my 10-year old plugged it in with much excitement on Christmas morning, the unit did not work. After multiple attempts to call XtremeMac (aka Memorex), their phone lines were too busy to put my call in the queue, and I had to keep calling back. This was my first clue that this was not going to have a happy ending.... I finally contacted a real person, who promptly hung up on me. I called back again only to be disconnected, again. On the third attempt, I talked to a real person who told me that my problem was that the unit was not compatible with the Nano 5G! The hot Nano currently being sold by Apple. What! Since there is actually nothing wrong with the unit, I am not able to return it. The extremely polite Indian man informed me that this was my problem, not his. He does have a very good point. However, I did wish him good luck in getting a new job when his current employer went out of business due to poor customer service. The bottom line is do not buy any product made by XtremeMac.

Because this alarm clock with IPod dock was cheap, I did not expect too much and I don't need a high quality sound system alarm clock. Sound was ok. Time and alarm are not difficult to setup. However, I stopped using this alarm clock after one night because the thing lit up my room and I couldn't sleep. I needed an alarm clock, not an additional lamp.

RCA Universal Dock for iPod Clock Radio (RP5512i) Review

RCA Universal Dock for iPod Clock Radio (RP5512i)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read reviews that other people have written about this item saying that it stopped working for them, and don't understand why mine works great.
I travel with the Phantom of the Opera as a crew member, and I pack this thing all around the country with me in my carry on bag. Yeah its kind of big, but it charges my iPhone and is a great alarm clock. There is a sliding switch at the bottom for you to choose your US time zone, and a button for DST (I ran into areas that don't do DST in Canada allot). The alarm will also go off without being plugged in for those times you accidentally plug into those pesky switched outlets in hotel rooms. Another great feature is if you adjust an alarm time, it will automatically turn on activate that alarm so you don't have to remember to turn it on after setting it. It also has a NAP button. Opposite of a SLEEP button (which it also has), it will do increments of 10, 15, 20 etc min. without having to reset one of the two alarms you can store in memory. I do charge my iPhone and listen to music with no problem other than if you have airport mode off on the phone, you hear all that 3G data buzzing before a call, txt, email etc. When you drop it on, it will say to you that it isn't a compatible device, but that is just because it does not filter out the noise from the cell service.
When I pack it into my suite case and travel with it, the display turns off (of course). The coolest part is when I plug it back in, it displays the time after about 10 sec. I have had the two AA batteries in it since Aug '08 and it is unplugged for about 5 days a month.
I have had mine since Aug of '08, and it has been working flawlessly. If I forget it in a hotel room or accidentally drop it and see it shatter into a million pieces, I will defiantly by another one.

iHome iA63 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock FM Radio Stereo Speaker System with Motorized Rotating Dock for iPhone and iPod (Black) Review

iHome iA63 App-Enhanced Alarm Clock FM Radio Stereo Speaker System with Motorized Rotating Dock for iPhone and iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the iHome iA63 (also called the iHome iA63BZ; I'm not sure if there's a distinction or not) for my 11-year old son. I was looking for an alarm clock for him that was on the small side, had a remote control, decent sound, could charge his iPod, one that would allow him to watch his iPod hands-free horizontally, and one that would wake him up. I didn't know those were my requirements for a clock for him until I'd bought him a different iPod charging alarm clock from another company at Christmas. That one had no remote, it was bulky and ugly, and there was no way to view movies on it. I returned that one and told him we'd wait until something came along that was a better fit for him. It was a lot to ask for, but I'm glad we waited.
In the box, you get the alarm clock, AC adapter, a button cell battery for the alarm clock to keep your settings in case of a power outage, and the tiny remote. I think the remote already had its own battery in it, but if not, it came with one.
This is not a "pretty" alarm clock when an iPod/iPhone isn't attached. It looks kind of like a weird speaker or a miniature black bandshell, with a big circular gap taking up 80% of its face. But, when the iPod is attached, and especially when it's attached and you have the iHome+Sleep app on your screen (or a movie), I think it looks techie-sexy (but still appropriate for an 11 year old).APPS FOR THE iHOME ALARM CLOCK:
iHOME+SLEEP (free, pretty darn necessary)
You're going to need the iHome+Sleep app to take full advantage of the alarm clock's functions. This is probably a no-brainer to previous iHome users, but we're new to this so I was surprised we had to download something to properly use a clock. The iHome+Sleep app is available for FREE through iTunes. It's a little complicated to use, but has unlimited sorts of alarm set-ups, and it is SO much nicer being able to pull out the iPod and change/add alarms, as opposed to doing it on an alarm clock for once.
iHOME+RADIO ($2, cool but not necessary)
You can also purchase the iHome+Radio app to listen to internet radio. According to iTunes:
"The new iHome+Radio app connects you to over 30,000 internet music, talk, sports and news stations from around the world. Sync with iHome+Sleep and wake to your favorite internet radio stations. Use with any app-enhanced iHome product for a new radio experience."
I think the iHome+Radio app currently costs 2 bucks. Very cool, but my son is way more excited about waking up to his iPod tunes. The iHome also has regular FM radio stations that come in loud and clear. You can set up the alarms to wake you up to your iPod music, the FM radio, internet radio if you have that app, and buzzer sounds as well. The iHome+Sleep will even update your Facebook and Twitter accounts when you wake up and go to sleep, if you're the type that needs to update the world to your literal every waking move. Yeah, we're not doing that.FUNCTIONALITY
The iHome iA63 accommodates iPods/iPhones of varied widths by way of a little bumper that rests to the left vertically against the vertical iPod. When you're in horizontal mode, your iPod/iPhone rests on the bumper like a small ledge. You adjust that bumper the first time you put your iPod in, and then it's set. This is important, because if you have a narrower iPod than the bumper is set up for, when you turn it horizontally, the iPod's going to sit at a weird angle. This was one of those things I hadn't considered when buying the alarm clock, but when I saw it had it, I said, "Hey! That makes sense!" I really like when a product seems like there was some actual thought put into it, don't you? Oh yeah, and the other great feature is setting up the time. Just plug in your iPod/iPhone, and press the 'Sync' button on the back of the clock and the time is updated. Voila!
There is a tiny button on the alarm clock, as well as a button on the remote that allow you to change the orientation of the iPod from vertical to horizontal. I'm fascinated by it like I was fascinated by pressing a button to make a CD drawer go out and in on computers many moons ago. My son thinks it's cool but in no way gets excited by it like I do. Kids these days don't appreciate the little things!
You can listen to music or do whatever else your iPod/iPhone does when it's connected to the alarm clock, although as it's connected to the alarm clock, doing most tasks would probably be most cumbersome. However, you can easily watch your iPod movies as well as Netflix, if you're a subscriber. As the sound comes out of the speakers when it's attached, THAT is a very useful feature. As our home can occasionally turn into a busy madhouse, I'm very ok with him watching the very occasional, mom-approved movie in his room. For those that aren't aware, although you can't block certain movie ratings from being viewed through Netflix, you CAN see the complete list of ALL movies that have been watched through your account. You just need to log into your Netflix account online, then go to Account > See All Instant Watching Activity. It's a little bit of Big Brother that I am not unhappy about at all. CONTACTING CUSTOMER SERVICE
I had been holding off on writing a review until we'd used the clock for a few months. Something happened yesterday that made me change my mind. It's been just under a month, and it's still working. However, yesterday I noticed the actual clock time display was blank, like the clock was unplugged. When the iPod is in the clock and the iHome+Sleep app is open, the time still shows up on the iPod, and all of the clock's other features are still working, but I still don't want parts of this clock dying on us. I got a little upset, and pressed just about every button on the remote and clock to see if we'd somehow turned off the display. Nope. Ugh. I was already thinking about how I'd probably be returning it, when I gave calling iHome a shot. (Customer Service: 800-288-2792 · 8am-4pm EST, M-F)
After two rings, I was connected to an actual English speaking person. At first thought I'd dialed incorrectly. I explained the problem and asked to be connected to someone that could help me. She said SHE could help me! She said the plug may have been bumped or the AC connection may have been pulled out, and if the battery in the iHome was dead, that may have caused the clock to blank out. I doubt any of these scenarios were the case, but there were a lot of kids in and out of the bedroom this past weekend, so you never know. She just said to unplug the radio and pull out the battery for a minute. (Why I hadn't tried this on my own is beyond me, as I'm often telling people to do that very thing if a gadget they have acts up). As the minute was passing, we joked about how the clock is kind of ugly, but really cool. She was great. Normal, not irritated or bored or uncaring or distracted as seems to often be the case if you call Customer Service at any company. After a minute, she had me plug it back in, and sure enough, the clock was back online. I put the battery back in, because I'm pretty sure it isn't dead. With the iPod in place I pressed the "Sync" button on the back of the clock, and once again the time was immediately fixed.
I'm not sure why the clock display 'disappeared', but it came back and is still fine, so I'm not worried about it. Especially when I know I can actually get help with it if I need it. That lady I spoke with was my push to write this review now instead of later. Had that conversation turned out differently, I would NOT have given this product 5 stars, but great customer service, when needed, is so important in my opinion, that at this point I still think the alarm clock deserves it.
This iHome iA63 alarm clock, and the iHome+Sleep app for that matter, have a lot of functions, which makes both somewhat complicated. Most fairly technologically comfortable folks will be fine with using them, but if you're a person that still freaks when Daylight Savings Time ends because it means your microwave clock will be off by an hour for the next 6 months, you may want to steer clear of this clock. Or, at least get help setting this up.PROS
- Small squarish size - about the size of one of those taller/wider paperback books
- Remote control
- Charges iPod/iPhone
- You can leave some types of sleeves on the iPod/iPhone when it's attached (my son's silicone Skullcandy sleeve fits fine when it's on the iHome charger)
- Ability to view iPod/iPhone in vertical or horizontal orientation (horizontal allows you to watch movies)
- Vertical AND horizontal orientation keeps the iPod/iPhone stable
- Horizontal viewing ability means you can watch movies on your iPod
- Button-pressing vertical/horizontal orientation change has "Oooh!" factor for people like me
- FM Radio, unlimited alarms (when using the free iHome+Sleep app), Internet Radio (if you buy the iHome+Radio app)
- Decent, loud-ish speakers
- "Sync" button on back immediately programs the clock time to the time on your iPod/iPhone
- Unlimited number of alarms and alarm settings
- The alarm clock wakes up my "sleeps like the dead" son without fail
- GREAT customer service help!
CONS
- Kind of ugly when an iPod/iHome isn't attached
- No AM Radio
- Possible intermittent problem where clock numbers disappear (has only happened once; unplugging/replugging fixed problem)
- With multiple radio presets and multiple ways to set up alarms, the clock and the iHome+Sleep app may be complicated for some users

I bought this alarm clock for it's ease of operation and dimmer for the clock, I like almost everything about it except for one not so small thing...the alarm volume. It is NOT adjustable (at least as far as I can tell). It starts out at 20% of max volume for about 30 seconds, then goes to 70% max volume and stays that way! I'm going to try and contact the company to see if there's any way this can be fixed. I like to lay in bed and listen to music for a little while before I get up for the day, but NOT at 70% volume...if not for this "flaw" I would have given it 5 stars.

Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock Review

Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock
Average Reviews:

I saw this for sale at a local store, so I thought I would do some digging for information. Unfortunately, there is almost zero. It doesn't say it anywhere online or on the box, but this will indeed charge your iPhone 3G. It's possible that they did not want to pay for licensing. Since it will charge the 3G, it should charge all of the new non-firewire iPods (Nano 5G, etc).
It's nice and compact, but certainly sturdy. Once you take a leaf through the instruction manual, it's very easy to use. Not one of those things I recommend to start pushing buttons feet-first, because you'll probably be woken up at 2:30am by accident.
What else can I say about it? It charges my iPhone, plays pretty well (a 5.1 system this isn't), has an aux-in for a Zune, etc, has dual-alarms with 3-4 different options each. If you're looking for a cheap replacement for your firewire-charging alarm clock, this is a good choice.

I was looking for another product that was similar to my I-Pod/radio player I use in my bathroom. This product "fit the bill!" I especially love the lights on the sides and the ability to dim them during the day and enhance them for the evening. I keep this player in my kitchen/family room. It has a great sound and works well for hearing music from almost any room. I would have enjoyed the option of a remote with this unit. That way I could change playlists or songs from the sofa or chair with a click of the button.

iLive ICP310B Ipod Iphone Dock Dual Alarm Clock Radio Bundle - iLive ALIVICP310BK1
Average Reviews:

Why is this thing bundled with headphones? According to the iLive website, there is NO headphone jack! There you can download the owner's manual, and it says there's a TV output and a subwoofer output, but absolutely no headphone output. iLive doesn't offer it with headphones themselves, so this "bundle" must have been cooked up because somebody has some headphones they have to get rid of, not because they have anything to do with the clock radio. I've spent hours searching high & low for an iPod docking clock radio with a headphone jack and could only find 3: iLive IC308B, Emerson iC172, and TEAC HD-1. Very specific searches on Google, Amazon, and the manufacturers' websites keep returning lots without headphone jacks, which I don't understand; but don't assume anything has a particular feature that you're looking for unless it's specifically mentioned in the product description. I bought one that one of the user reviewers said he listens to on headphones, and it doesn't have a headphone jack, so now I have to go to all the trouble of sending it back. I haven't tracked down that commenter yet to ask him what the heck he was talking about - the iPod headphone jack isn't accessible when it's in the dock, so it wasn't that.

This product was/is kind of misrepresented, and not only on this website. It is not a true iHome. It would not take my niece's iPod, and it is not a docking station. We purchased from computer brain, explained the situation, and they gave us our purchase price and shipping back. We thought this was a class act and would purchase from them again if they were to sell a product we are interested in.

Sony ICF-C05iP Clock Radio for iPod (Black) Review

Love it, and it is even better than the description makes it sound. I love that I can set the volume for the alarm itself so that I can listen to music while I fall asleep and not have to worry about it being to low in the morning to wake me up. I also love that I can turn the backlight off at night. The only issue I have with it is that it is really easy to accidently snooze for longer than you would like. If you push the snooze button more than once it increases the snooze time, so be careful with that.

This was a replacement for another dock we had for 3 months and died. this was one of the ones I originally looked at but didnt purchase as it looks cheap online. When it arrived however, it was perfect for my teenager. the shaker function works great! she doenst get out of bed form generally speaking with any speed, but the shaker makes her laugh (another thing most teen girls avoid) and get up in a good mood! anything that does that, deserves 5 stars in my opinion!
