Here's the problem. If you have an ipod in the unit you cannot wake up to the buzzer, only the ipod. If you go to sleep with the ipod on, playing some mellow music at low volume, this is what you will hear for your morning alarm. It's not going to wake you. You cannot use the buzzer for an alarm unless you take the ipod out. What's the point of having it?
Mine is going back.

(More customer reviews)I bought this unit for my son for Christmas for use with his Ipod Nano 5G. According to the Apple website, these two products are compatible. However, when my 10-year old plugged it in with much excitement on Christmas morning, the unit did not work. After multiple attempts to call XtremeMac (aka Memorex), their phone lines were too busy to put my call in the queue, and I had to keep calling back. This was my first clue that this was not going to have a happy ending.... I finally contacted a real person, who promptly hung up on me. I called back again only to be disconnected, again. On the third attempt, I talked to a real person who told me that my problem was that the unit was not compatible with the Nano 5G! The hot Nano currently being sold by Apple. What! Since there is actually nothing wrong with the unit, I am not able to return it. The extremely polite Indian man informed me that this was my problem, not his. He does have a very good point. However, I did wish him good luck in getting a new job when his current employer went out of business due to poor customer service. The bottom line is do not buy any product made by XtremeMac.

iHome iH5 Clock Radio and Speaker System for iPod (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been long needing a new alarm clock/radio for my bedroom now and luck has it that SDI Tech just put out on the market something that I was looking for. The iHome is essentially an alarm clock radio with a docking station for the iPod. The unit is no bigger than a regular clock radio, measuring 9.2 in [234mm] width, 2.7in [69mm] height and 5.5in [141mm] depth so it can comfortably fit even on a small nightstand. Packaging contains the unit itself, instructions manual, removable docking station to fit the different kinds of iPods, back-up batteries for when power goes out [we all hate to see the flashing 12:00 when this happens], power adapter and an external radio antenna. No remote control though! You have to purchase it separately and it comes free if you buy one of their hard iPod cases for around $40 if I remember right. A smart marketing move, but deplorable. Just include the remote!
Sound quality is what to be expected of speakers of that size. SDI claims to be using an innovative "tunnel sound" system called Reason8 [resonate, how cool :/]. They're pretty loud at full blast but I was hoping they would offer a deeper, stronger sounding bass. I have a similar sized pair of computer desktop speakers that came with one of my old Hewlett Packard computers that offer better sounding bass. For those that don't listen to a lot of techno, I suppose it's no biggie. Reason8 does sound better than most other competitors out there tough, but doesn't quite touch Bose or Altec Lansing.
The iHome has some very cool features. Even without a docked iPod it can still offer quite good functionality: alarm clock, radio. On the back of the unit there is aline in on the back so you can connect pretty much any audio device and listen through the speakers. The Snooze button also adjusts the display brightness, offering 3 different settings. Also found on the back of the unit there is a small button for daylight savings time, sleep volume adjustment and clock set-up.
Dock an iPod and things get interesting. While charging it, you can listen to music directly through it, you can set it so it automatically shuts off at intervals ranging from 120 minutes to 60 to 30 to 15. As the timer approaches zero, volume slowly and subtly turns itself down.
You can set it so when it's time to wake up, you will be awaken to the sound of music coming from your little mp3 player.
Gripes:
Remote control not included. What gives? Smart marketing move, as I've mentioned above, but it would have been nice to have it included, given the unit's price.
Even on the lowest brightness setting I still find the unit too bright for my taste. The blue hue lights up my whole room. I sent an e-mail to SDI tech support inquiring about ways to make it dimmer, no response yet. If this is to be an alarm clock radio, why didn't they offer more than just 3 brightness settings? If nothing else, I think I'll find some translucent duct tape and put it over the front display, trying my best to make it blend with the design.
Buttons on the top have a different color than the front display. The front is a warm blue, the buttons are orange. I personally think from a design standpoint the unit would have looked more ballanced if it was in a single color.
Speaking of buttons, they seem rigid to the touch, giving off a loud click when pressed. The round turn buttons for volume and settings are a bit tricky to use. It may be just my unit but I found both to be sometimes unresponsive and when they finally do work, they are too touchy. I think it would have been a very nice feature if, for the price claimed on such a unit, the buttons would have been replaced with tactile wheels, just like the iPod.
Radio antenna cable has a plug that's actually in the middle of the cable itself. It would have been nice if the thing actually plugged in the very back of the unit, so if it wasn't needed [like in my case], one wouldn't have to worry about ducking away 3 inches of useless tangle.
Another nice feature would be the ability to select exactly what song on the iPod to wake up to. Presently, the thing just picks up where it left off playing the night before.
My Samsung cellphone is at fault for the following gripe, having spoiled me rotten. My phone has 3 settings for alarms: daily, Monday through Friday or Saturday and Sunday. Would be nice if the iHome had a similar feature, so if you go to bed late on a Friday and forget to turn off the alarm, you won't be awaken Saturday morning.
Final Thoughts:
I purchased this unit primarily because I wanted a system that allowed me to listen to my tunes as I read a book before going to sleep. I also needed a new, functional alarm clock. The SDI iHome paired these two needs into one nice option. I had $100 worth of gift certificates at Best Buy so I figured why not. If it wasn't for my abovementioned "overdue" needs, I probably would have waited. Wait and see what the competition comes out with. Wait for the price to go down a bit because as it stands right now, it's a bit high. If you end up purchasing it, rest assured that it's a nice gadget that will surely serve you well. Nice features, good sound quality, best suited to be used in a bedroom.

iHome iP1 Studio Series Speaker System for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I think this system is one of the best, if not the best, sound systems available for iPhone/iPod considering its cost and sound quality. A similar Bose system cost about $400. Yet, IP1 fails in few areas, mainly some basic design areas and secondly sound fine tuning. Good:
-Cost is lesser than similar Bose
-Good sized remote easily controls iPhones or iPod.
-Sound quality is not bad, actually very clean.
-iPhone or iTouch, once docked, lays its back to the device, getting a good support from IP1s plexi-glass surface, preventing accidental breaking of the connection. Bose does not have this advantage.
-Design is appealing to some as it is a bit different (based on personal preference), some likes boxy, minimalist design, like my self.
Bad:
-Yes it sounds nice, but no matter how much you lower the treble, it still sounds high on treble, even with the extra bass.
-No, it does not sound high enough to tremble the room, the volume is in lower end, may be this is good to prevent over load on the speakers.
-The infamous "power brick", which is separate piece than the system is almost three time bigger than an average laptop power brick. It requires extra attention to place into a proper location so it won't be visible. iHome should have designed better brick, AppleTV has some lessons on this area.
-Design is a bit un-minimalistic for my taste. System's design makes it difficult to safely place it or carry it around. You may need to place this in place and leave it there. To much curves/corners. iHome would better box this into a nice quality plastic container for practical purposes.
Conclusion:
- Yes, I would recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a moderately quality sound system with good price. It is well worth to pay around $230 for this system. However, do not expect miracles, and forget about being mobile with this, even in the house.
-I congratulate iHome folks to initiate this type of system, I am hoping they will improve on this in design and sound area. They are almost there. With an inclusion wi-fi radio system, iHome may come up a better product that may crush all the other new music systems out there.
TIPS:
1- You can install the "Shoutcast" app to your iPhone and stream thousands internet radios just like a wi-fi radio, now, you have a wi-fi radio as well.
2- Or, better, you can buy an Airport Express for $99.
Connect it to music system with its 3.5mm connection,
Configure it to connect to your Mac or PC's iTunes application
Play the music you like on your Mac or PC with iTunes application to have the music streamed into the Air port Express which puts it to any sound system.
3- Even, better, (yes it gets better ) you can also install "Remote" application from app store into your iPhone or Touch which controls your iTunes player on your Mac or PC.
In turn, wherever you are in your house, you control your music with iPhone via Remote app (like a remote control, but seeing entire iTunes library on your iPhone/Touch) through wi-fi network, streaming the music into the any stereo via AirPort Express.

First, let's be clear about what it's not: This is not a stand-alone clock radio. Without the iPhone/iPod attached, it's simply a clock with a buzzer alarm (buzzer sounds like the ubiquitous vehicle back-up alarm).
To use it effectively, you must have your iPhone/iPod attached and you need two apps loaded to your device: iHome+Sleep (a free app) and iHome+Radio ($2.99). Then, if you want to use it as a clock radio, you must have the iHome+Sleep app open. If any of these conditions aren't met, it reverts to being a clock with a buzzer alarm.
"Wow," you're probably thinking, "is it worth this hassle?" Yup, it truly is.
What you get is a stylish, compact, solidly-built unit that charges your device (meaning there's one less cord), provides excellent sound for your iPod songs, and allows you an abundance of wake-up and go-to-sleep options. With the provided adapters, it's also easy to slide your device on to the unit (set ups for multiple versions of iPhones/iPods).
Time display has a good variety of settings, so you can keep it bright or dim it down depending on your preferences. Next to the bed, even with my bad eye sight, I have no trouble reading it at night at the setting I've chosen, and it doesn't illuminate the whole room.
The iHome+Radio is an excellent app giving you access to a large number of categories and stations for streamed content (and I understand they're working to increase offerings all the time). It will replace my Tune-In radio app, as it has equal offerings and is a well-designed app.
The iHome+Sleep app then turns the whole set-up into a wonderful clock radio. If iHome+Sleep can be faulted for anything, it's the overkill on its design and capabilities (e.g., you're presented with a slider bar for telling it when you go to sleep and when you wake up and it will track your sleep history for you ["Let's see now...I'm about to fall asleep, I'd better reach over and touch my slider..."]).
What it does give you:
· Wake to iPod music, buzzer, or any station that streams through iHome+Radio.
· Set your alarm(s) for weekdays, weekends, or any combination of days you want.
· If you want, automatically view Facebook or Twitter feeds before going to sleep or when you wake up.
· Vary the 'fade-in' of the alarm (starts softly, then gradually fade-in to the volume you want).
· Control how bright the iHome+Sleep screen is on your iPhone (remember, it has to be open to use this device).
· Use it in reverse and play iPod/internet radio when going to sleep (sleep timer).
All-in-all, this is a GREAT device. I've quickly gotten used to procedures you must follow, and the options it gives you are wonderful.

(More customer reviews)It's first and foremost just a speaker dock. Once you add the app, you can completely customize the alarm schedule, but in that case, why this dock compared to any other? Sound quality was okay, no worse than any other clock radio I've ever owned.
It does have a clock built in with very basic alarm capabilities and a battery backup. However, while there are two alarms that can each be set with times for every day, or a combination of one time for M-F and another time for Saturday and Sunday, the ability to program the alarms was very limited. In my case, I get up at the same time Mon, Tues, Thur, and Friday, a different time on Wednesday, no alarm on Saturday, and a third time on Sunday. For me, I would have had to use both alarms for myself; alarm 1 for the "usual" schedule. Then I'd have to set alarm 2 for my Wednesday wake-up, but it would be set for every day, so I'd have to remember to turn off alarm 1 on Tuesday night and turn on alarm 2, then reverse it for Wednesday night. I also couldn't figure out a way to completely disable the weekend alarm without turning the entire alarm off (so it would automatically resume on Monday), and when I asked, tech support either didn't understand the question or chose to evade it.
(I realize most alarm clocks have to be reprogrammed to change the time they go off, and you have to turn them off to prevent them going off, but the description makes the alarm schedule of this one sound really customizable and in that regard, I found it pathetically wanting.)
It worked fine with my iPad 2, with no issues charging or playing. I found it difficult to dock; the connector rocks back and forth and I had to turn the dock around and visually align it to the port. By contrast, my mom's original iPad slid easily into place, and it worked well even with the iPad in an OtterBox case.
My chief concern, and the reason I returned it, was that when the iPad is docked, if you use to app to create a custom alarm, you have to use the alarm sounds built into the app, and the alarm volume is then tied to the dock volume. I keep the volume turned way down as I go to sleep at night, and was concerned that there would be mornings that I'd sleep right through the alarm. Also, because the built-in alarm was so limited, I was concerned that the battery backup built into the dock might not work if the built-in alarm was disabled and the user was relying on app's alarms, though I didn't test it to be sure.

(More customer reviews)Got this for my son to use with his iPod touch. The first unit worked as a clock radio, but would not connect with the iPod at all. After a quick and painless replacement from Amazon, the replacement unit worked fine with the iPod - for about 6 months. Now it's doing the same thing as the first one, refusing to charge or play from the iPod.
Once is a fluke, but twice is a pattern. It's too late to return it to Amazon, and I don't want to spend about half the original purchase price to ship it to the manufacturer, just to get another potentially defective unit. I'm going to write this one off and look for another alternative with better reviews.

(More customer reviews)I did not have a chance to compare the sound of this unit directly to other similar units, but my subjective sense is that it has decent sound for the size. It also cranks out a lot of volume - more than enough for what I am using it for (a speaker in the kitchen while I do chores). The bass response is much better than I would have expected. The unit closes to fold fairly flat (a little more than an inch), which is nice if you need to pack it up and move it. It includes a rechargeable battery should you want to take it with you to some location where there is no place to plug in. I can't imagine needing that myself, but perhaps if one wanted to take their music camping, it would be a good choice. I experimented with the battery a bit. After two full hours of non-stop playing, the battery indicator still showed full.
The controls are fairly simple and obvious. It includes adapters for various iPhone models. Unfortunately, as is typical of these devices, you have to remove the phone from its case to get a good connection. I haven't found one yet where that wasn't the case, but that is a feature I would be willing to pay extra for.
I have only two complaints. First, the backup battery for the alarm clock and the remote were dead on arrival. I haven't had a chance to go buy replacements. Consequently, I can't comment on how well the remote works. Secondly, even with the included antenna, the FM reception is not great. It only clearly picks up about half as many stations as the radio in the next room. However, that wasn't really a feature I was looking for in this device. I would be more likely to use the Pandora app or one of the radio station apps on the phone in order to ensure clear sound.

(More customer reviews)Warning: Most of the truly worthwhile features for this alarm clock are only functional through the iPhone / iPad App ("iHome+Sleep" App on iTunes store). Without the app, it's merely an expensive speaker system with a clock (and not a very accurate one, either). I have had the iA100 for over two months now and unfortunately, the app is extremely buggy and erratic and the direct support from iHome has been completely useless and unresponsive. This makes the iA100 less useful and less worthy of its $[...] price tag.
I recommend you refer to the following support threads on iHome's own support forums before considering this item:

Do a search for more on the iA100 topic and you'll find similar issues with similar concerns. You'll notice that these and other postings have almost zero responses from iHome support except for one (which was not specific or helpful in any way). Direct emails to their tech support (I've sent three over the past two months over the same issues posted) go ignored. I intend to call directly, however I read a customer's posting that the phone support lacks adequate knowledge about the product, software app or remedies, and were advised to post their question on the iHome support forums for better response. This tells me that they have a limited staff and relies solely on their support forums for communicating with customers.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with this purchase considering it's a pretty expensive, high-end alarm clock that is customized to work with your iPad / iPhone. People on the forums have complained that their iA100s are unreliable for daily use. I simply can't rely on mine either due to the problems noted in the forum postings. I'm assuming people are merely using the iA100 as a $[...] speaker system for now. I personally wouldn't mind the time needed to gradually improve their iHome App, but it would be appropriate (and for $200, they should be obligated) to respond to customers with some kind of confirmation, remedy, workaround, or timeline to the fixes posted on the iHome support forum.
I'll be happy to update this post when iHome promptly responds to these and other support postings regarding similar issues regarding the app.
In the meantime, purchase this at your own risk!
