Sony ICF-C7IP Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone with Hidden Sliding Dock Tray Review

Sony ICF-C7IP Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone with Hidden Sliding Dock Tray

I searched a long time for a combo clock radio and docking station for my iPhone. Although there are several on the market, I wanted something that took up as little space as possible on my night stand, had a display with large numbers, would charge my iPhone, play music from my iPhone as the alarm instead of the radio, and was easy to use.
I FOUND IT!! This Sony clock radio is great, and has TONS of features. I like the large illuminated display, which has different settings depending on how bright you want the light at night. Setting the alarm is very easy (you can go forward and backward through hour and minutes, without having to run completely through the cycle like most clocks), and there are TWO alarm settings. You can set an alarm for weekdays to get you up for work, and then a separate alarm for the weekend. Pretty cool.
The snooze button is nice and big on top of the unit, and let's you take the standard 10 minute snooze, or you can keep pressing the button and lengthen the snooze time up to 60 minutes in 20 minute increments. A nice feature.
There's a sleep feature timer so you can listen to radio or iPhone/iPod music while you fall asleep. For the alarm, you can have a buzz, AM or FM radio, or a tune from your iPhone, and it works great.
Buttons on the front and side are nice and large so you don't have to grope in the dark, and there are a variety of customizable settings.
The best part is the hidden slide-out docking tray. Pop it out when you want to charge your iPhone/iPod or listen to music through the clock's speaker, and push it back in when you don't need it, making the unit's footprint as small as possible. The docking tray comes with adapters to fit iPhone or iPod. I use mine without either adapter because I have a protective case on my iPhone, but it still fits in nicely.
In reading back my review, I sound like a Sony employee, but I'm not. Have no connection to the product, other than I'm a satisfied customer, and would recommend this unit highly to anyone looking for a docking station/clock radio for their iPhone or iPod. There are too many other features to go into here. Have fun discovering all the great things Sony thought of to include on this unit.
Thanks for a great unit, Sony!

Sony ICFCS10iP Speaker Dock with Alarm Clock and Radio for iPod/iPhone (Black) Review

Sony ICFCS10iP Speaker Dock with Alarm Clock and Radio for iPod/iPhone (Black)

I wanted to replace my clock radio for one that charges my iPod Touch & has decent sound. After sampling several models at the Apple Store & researching online, I picked this one. As a note, there is a previous model of this unit & there are some major differences. Since both are still available as of 1/14/10, you might want to decide which one works better for you. The differences are:
-The old one was shorter, designed for regular ipods. The Touch & the iPhone stuck out higher then the radio, which meant when reaching for the snooze or other buttons, you may hit the iphone/touch and knock it off.
-The old one has a smaller clock display.
-The old one had a BETTER ipod dock. It actually had a rest behind where the ipod stands, which could be adjusted from the back to go in or out. This to me was an amazing & rather unique solution.
The one I bought, the new one described in this item listing, has a bigger clock display & is taller so the touch and iphone no longer stick out on top. However, the dock no longer has the adjustable backrest like the older model. Instead, it comes with 2 plates, one for the iphone, one for the Touch. If you have another ipod, you'll have to bring your own dock plate.
The main problem with this dock plate solution is that my Touch doesn't fit with the protective case on (I use an Agent 18). Since taking the Touch out of the case everyday is not something I wish to do, I have to use this without any dock plates. The problem with that is the only support the Touch has is the dock port. This is obviously not a good thing in the long term. It makes using the Touch while it is docked a 2 hand operation; one to stabilize the Touch & keep it from pushing back & the other hand to make the adjustments. This is doubly frustrating since they had a much better docking solution in the older model.
I plan on glueing a piece of foam or other material on the radio behind where the Touch would be to support it.
Even with this caveat, I would still recommend this Sony. The price to benefit ratio, to me at least, is great. The sound quality and clock radio functions are excellent, especially when you factor in the price you paid.
Things I like:
-Excellent sound
-Lots of options for the clock radio; 2 alarms, different days of the week, can wake up to ipod, buzzer, or clock.
-Sleep function also works with listening to iPod
-Comes with external AM & FM antennas. Picks up stations I listen to without a problem.
-Electronic tuning for radio stations with presets
-Plays Pandora & other sound apps through the system also
-Buzzer for alarm works great. Starts off slow and low volume. Then increases in intensity after every hit of the Snooze bar.
-Clock auto sets & remembers time if unplugged. Only have to set time zone when you first set it up.
-Remote works with iPod and has decent range.
Things I don't like:
-Docking solution is a regression compared to the older model
Overall, I recommend this unit. If you don't use a case with your iPhone or Touch, than it would get 5 stars, IMO.

Perfect for your bedroom, kitchen, or living room, the ICF-CS10iP speaker dock and clock radio is a great way to listen to your favorite iPod or iPhone tunes. A dual alarm lets you set two separate wake-up times with the option of waking up to the music stored on your iPhone or iPod, the radio, or buzzer. Additional features include a large, easy-to-read LCD and a remote control that lets you access your music from across the room.

Dual Alarm with iPod, Radio, or Buzzer Set two separate wake times and enjoy waking up to your iPod/iPhone, radio, or buzzer. "7-5-2" alarm settings allow for different wake times on weekdays and weekends, and a programmable snooze time (up to 60 minutes) lets you delay the inevitable with a few more minutes of sweet slumber.

Pop in a CR2032 battery and you'll also have battery backup, to make sure you don't miss your alarm in the event of a power outage.

Sleep Timer The sleep timer lets you drift off to your favorite tunes on iPod or radio, adjustable to 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes.

AM/FM Radio Tune into that weather forecast, morning show, or traffic report quickly with 10 FM and five AM preset stations.

Adjustable Brightness The LCD display features a brightness control to adjust to your liking, with three settings (high, medium, low).

Sony Sound Sony includes some of their audio technologies for enhancing your sound. Mega Xpand effectively expands the sound field, for a more "surround" experience. Mega Bass does just what it sounds like, enhancing the low-end, even at low listening levels.

Auxiliary Input Connect non-docking iPod devices, CD players, and other MP3 players via the handy line-in jack.

What's in the Box Sony ICF-CS10iP speaker dock, remote control, AC cord with AC adapter, audio-in cable, AM loop antenna, dock adapters, and documentation.

Bob 5 in 1 Wobble Clock Silver Review

Bob 5 in 1 Wobble Clock Silver

I believe the Bob 5-in-1 Wobble Clock will be remembered as the moment that synergy met ubiquity. The penta-mode capability (activated with a hidden switch on the base of the unit) mirrors the duality of man vs. nature. The weight of the unit is satisfying, so much so that it might sail through plate glass without even breaking a sweat. I will one day be an old man, and gaze lovingly at my Bob 5-in-1 Wobble Clock, thinking, "Hasn't it been a charmed life? Hasn't it?"
