The charging adapter is heavy and holds the iPhone up properly in both landscape mode and portrait mode (horizontal and vertical). It is sturdy is coated in a rubber coating that helps it from sliding on smooth surfaces. The only downside is that the actual charging cable is too short. The cable is a regular USB interface into a small power brick but with it being about 2.5 feet long it may not be long enough to actually fit underneath your bed where my power outlet is. The good news is that with a USB extenstion cable you can get it to reach but who really wants to hassle with a longer cable and purchasing it. Now if your power cable is directly behind the nightstand you are in good shape. I am assuming that you would use this device as a nightclock replacement.
If you do use this clock as a replacement take note. During the day when you take the phone off the charger you will not have a clock in the room. Yes this actually posed a problem for me as I couldn't tell what time it was when the phone was in another room.
You can download the clock app for free and test it out before you buy this charger. In the iTunes app store as "Kensington".
