(More customer reviews)This battery, based on spec, should last about 40% longer than the factory Toshiba battery that came with the gigabeat. When I first got and installed it, it did seems to work for longer. However, my original battery lasted about two years before I noticed it starting to run down faster, this battery only lasted about 8 months and it went downhill in a hurry. So, if you are just looking to extend the life of your player, I would look for an external battery pack charger. If you are just replacing the factory battery because it isn't taking a charge the way it used to, then this is an OK replacement, however it is *slightly* larger than the factory battery so you need to be careful when installing it to not smash any components to make it fit (it does fit though, barely). Personally I would have ordered a Toshiba battery at a slightly higher cost had I known that this one wasn't going to last even a year (granted, this player gets a fair amount of use, but again, my original battery did last over two years and is currently the one in player until I get another new one).
One thing to keep in mind if you look for an external battery for your gigabeat; some models do NOT take a charge over the USB while the player is ON. Make sure to test it out if possible. There are external batteries that will charge through the AC adapter connection, so you might look for one of those.
UPDATE: You may not be able to find a Toshiba branded battery for their Gigabeat players anymore (I looked and could not), so this may be your only option to replace yours. These replacements are made in Hong Kong and I suspect a little looking around on the internet might lead you to more suppliers with competative pricing.
