(More customer reviews)I purchased this weather radio to use at work. The idea was to have it (1) only sound an alarm for our county, and (2) only sound an alarm for tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings (i.e., not for watches, tests, etc.). Following the instructions, I programmed the S.A.M.E. code for our county, and I disabled all but the aforementioned alerts. Regardless, the radio sounds at any and all events, including the weekly tests. That makes it practically worthless for use in the workplace. It is a shame, because the unit itself seems pretty well built (though surprisingly large), and the reception and sound quality are quite good. I should have bought the same Midland WR-300 we have at home, which is quite easy to program and has worked great for us.

The Weather Tracker FR800 is a great digital table top radio that receives the normal AM and FM stations with the bonus of S.A.M.E. which is a public alert system operated through NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association). It comes with and AC adapter included and can also operated on 3 D cell batteries (not included). It can also function as a normal alarm clock that gives it yet another function. Having both the options of wall plug or batteries in case of an emergency so you will always have the necessary information.
