The cord that comes with the clock is around 3 or 4 feet long, so if the clock is near or next to your bed, you will not need this extension cord.
If you are planning on having the clock across the room and still want the vibrations to wake you up, then Yes I would say that you need this cord.
I actually didn't need the extension cord and sent it back without any hassles.
